So you’re sitting at home on another Saturday night with nothing to do and no dating prospects on the horizon. At least you’ll always have ice cream. And besides, being in a relationship is highly over-rated anyways. Aren’t you sick of seeing couples holding hands and smiling at each other in public? They probably aren’t all that happy anyways. You’re single and that’s the way you like it. You don’t want to have to deal with all the hassles that go with a relationship, you’re much too busy for that. So take pride in your singles status and don’t let anyone try to convince you to go on a blind first date or join some online dating website. Here are some reasons why it’s great to be single!
1. You save money. If you’re a guy then dating can cost you a lot of money. Not to sound sexist, but chances are you‘ll be paying for the majority of dates at first. Even a few coffee dates here and there will add up, especially if things progress to the point where you’re celebrating birthdays and anniversaries. And even if you’re a woman, dating can be expensive too. You’ve got expenses like make-up, clothing, and getting your hair done. How can a guy expect you to look nice for him if you don’t spend any money? But being single means you get to pocket the money you’d otherwise spend on all those frilly things that come with relationships. In fact, try adding up all your expenses related to your last relationship – all the dinners, gifts, surprises, and little things. You’d probably be shocked to find out how much you spent and would be happy to have that money back.
2. You can do whatever you want. Sure relationships can give you a sense of stability, but they can also be confining. When you’re single you can drop by the bar when you want, and you don’t have to answer to anyone. You can go out dancing with friends without having to call anyone to check in, and you can come home at any time of night. You get to be your own person and sometimes that’s a lot more fun. You don’t have to be at home obsessing over online dating either.
3. You can wear whatever you want. Isn’t it a great feeling not to have to worry about your clothes or hair? When you’re happily single and not looking for love you can wear any kind of clothes you want and it won’t matter how people react. You aren’t looking to attract a potential true love so you can go ahead and wear your pyjamas to the grocery store. So what if the stock boy looks at you funny, you wouldn’t be into him anyways.
4. You don’t have to deal with other people’s parents. One of the worst things about relationships is when you don’t get along with your partner’s parents. And even meeting parents for the first time can be a nerve-racking experience. Who needs all that stress? When you’re single the only parents you have to deal with are your own. Just be prepared to hear some nagging questioning as to why you are still single.
5. You get the last slice of pizza. One of the worst things when you’re in a relationship is having to give up the last slice of pizza to your partner. Aren’t there times when you’d just love to scarf it down without asking, but you know she’s get furious at you? Instead you have to politely offer that last piece to her and it’s the worst thing in the world if she accepts.
6. No fighting. Unless you’re in the habit of talking to yourself and getting mad at your own personality, you won’t have to fight with anyone when you’re single. There’s nothing worse than getting into these little fights about nothing that will ruin an otherwise perfect day. What are you fighting about exactly? Something that happened two weeks ago?! It’s ridiculous and no one needs that kind of frustration.
7. When you’re single you truly get to learn who you are. You have to be an individual before you can be part of a couple. If you jump from relationship to relationship for fear of being alone you might not develop a strong sense of self and end up just collecting a bunch of embarassing dating stories. So find out who you are first, and you can do that by being single.
